A Guide to Drimsynie Holiday Village

Before we start let’s clear something up…

It’s pronounced Drim – SIGH – knee! Emphasis on the ‘sigh’.

Now that you know how to say it, let us tell you all about it…

Our flagship holiday park, Drimsynie Holiday Village in peaceful Lochgoilhead village. It’s not the kind of place you ever stumble across by accident, tucked away by the banks of Loch Goil, surrounded by the majestic Arrochar Alps – when you arrive it’s like discovering a hidden world! Your adventure begins on the drive here, whether you arrive via the A83 with a turning off the ‘Rest and be Thankful’, or the A815 from Dunoon. Both roads are single track and incredibly scenic, so soak up those epic views en route.

Truly something for everyone

Drimsynie is our biggest park – and many would say our best – with the biggest choice of accommodation types and the most things to do on-site. Whereas Hunters Quay has families at its heart and Loch Lomond is perfect for peace and quiet, at Drimsynie you can create whatever kind of break suits you best.

Accommodation to suit you

One of the first things you’ll notice when you arrive are our iconic A-frame lodges. These 2-storey holiday homes have a balcony with outdoor furniture, providing views for days of the surrounding landscape.

Next, you’ll probably spot Drimsynie Hotel. As well as housing beautiful bedrooms, this is where you’ll find the bars, restaurants, pool, spa, gym, kids’ funhouse and more.

On top of hotel rooms and lodges you’ll find hot tub lodgescaravanscottages and apartments catering for everyone from couples to large groups.

And that old building that looks a bit like a castle? That was previously a hotel, but since the fabulous new leisure complex was built, it’s now staff accommodation. The lucky things!

Food & Drink

We’ve made it easy to keep everyone happy ay Drimsynie – you don’t even need to leave the park to find great food.

The View Bar and Restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with a crowd-pleasing menu and amazing views out across the park and beyond.

If you prefer to grab and go, pick up a takeaway from DC’s to enjoy in the comfort of your accommodation. In the evening you can relax with a cocktail at the Rob Roy suite, where you can also take in some live entertainment at the weekend.

A short stroll away in Lochgoilhead village you’ll find our friendly former coaching inn The Goil Inn, can always be sure of a hearty meal and a wee dram of something special.

Things to do

After a long day of adventure and exploration, our accommodation is the perfect space to get cosy. Pour a warming wee dram, get under a blanket and admire the views from the comfort of your caravan or sit back and enjoy the bubbles in your hot tub. There’s no shortage of ways to full your days – and nights – at Drimsynie. Whether you like an action-packed holiday or something a little more leisurely, you can create your perfect break.

Activities at the park

You don’t even need to go further than a stroll from your accommodation to find lots of fun things to do.

If the weather doesn’t go your way, make the most of our gym and spa, or head to our pool which also features a jacuzzi, steam room and sauna.

Wee ones will love burning off some energy at the Funhouse – there’s even a baby ball pool too for really wee ones, and an outdoor playground too.

Yes that’s right, Drimsynie has its own 9-hole golf course – and it’s one of the most scenic you’ll ever come across. So if you’re partial to a round or two, make sure you book in during your stay.

On top of our leisure activities, we partner with Go Active to bring you some fantastic bookable sessions for all ages ranging from archery to zorbing! You’re guaranteed to have a great laugh, meet some new people and learn some new skills.

Explore nearby

If all that wasn’t enough, there’s lots more just a stone’s throw away in Lochgoilhead and Carrick.

Loch Goil

Loch Goil

A short wander from the holiday village and you’ll find yourself on the banks of Loch Goil, a small sea loch that’s an arm of Loch Long. From the Goil Inn go through the archway that says ‘Village Green’ and follow the path down to the beach at the loch’s edge.

We highly recommend getting out on the water. On the route round the loch from Lochgoilhead to Carrick you’ll find Loch Goil Cruisers where you can rent a motorboat by the hour. Keep your eyes peeled from Scottish wildlife while you’re on the water – it’s a great spot for viewing usually reclusive creatures. Carry on round the loch to Carrick and you’ll see snap-worthy Carrick Castle, a 14th-century tower house overlooking the loch. Mary Queen of Scots spent a night there in 1563.

Nearby Walks

We’re surrounded by amazing walking routes, from leisurely strolls to serious hikes.

A popular and easy route is the Drimsynie Circular Walk which starts right outside our hotel. Just follow the signposts and enjoy the amazing views! Or why not meander through Cormonachan Woodlands which run alongside Loch Goil.

For a longer route try the Duke’s Pass Circular which starts also in Lochgoilhead. Serious hikers are spoilt for choice when it comes to nearby routes, with the village surrounded by several Corbetts in the Arrochar Alps, including Benn Donich, The Brack and Cnoc Coinnich.

If you want to see the area at a greater speed, you can hire mountain bikes from Argyll Bike Hire in Lochgoilhead.

Days out within a 10-mile drive

Drimysnie might be off the beaten track but that doesn’t mean it’s miles from great places to go. To make your holiday spends go even further, we’ve also arranged for lots of the best attractions to give special discounts to Argyll Holidays guests!

For nature lovers

Our part of Argyll has lots of gorgeous gardens to explore – we recommend Crarae GardensGeilston Gardens, the grounds of Arduaine Estate and Ardkinglas Woodland Garden. The latter has a Gruffalo trail which is sure to be a hit with wee ones!

Our part of the world is home to some beautiful Scottish wildlife – West Highland Wildlife Tours will take to you to the most likely viewing spots where you might catch a glimpse of eagles, deer, red squirrels and more whilst giving you a wonderfully well-informed insight.

If you’re looking a walk further afield, Dun Na Cuaiche which starts in Inverary will give your legs a good workout but reward you with amazing views at the top.

For history buffs

A half-hour drive or so and you can explore the beautiful town of Inverary. Here you can head back in time at the Castle or the Jail.

Or for a glimpse into the daily life of ordinary people, plan in a trip to Auchindrain Township – the last remaining and best-preserved example of a Scottish township, dating back to the 1700s.

For action fans

Argyll Adventure in Inverary has several fantastic activities to choose from so you can mix and match to suit the age and size of your group. Choose from horse riding treks, children’s pony rides, horse riding lessons, paintball, laser tag and crossbows.

Half an hour’s drive will take you to Loch Lomond, where Loch Lomond Leisure offer all kinds of watery adventures including speedboat tours, water-skiing, wakeboarding, banana boats and more.

Also in Loch Lomond, 4×4 Adventures Scotland can give you a guided off-road tour around the rough, steep tracks on the hills around Loch Lomond and Loch Long that they have exclusive access to. Or you can get behind the wheel yourself for an off-road driving experience in one of their iconic Land Rover Defenders – either way you can enjoy breathtaking views aplenty.

For culture vultures

We highly recommend a visit to Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s Hill House – it’s currently being renovated, and you can walk all around the outside of it on raised platforms to get a good view of this architectural gem from outside as well as inside.

Fyne Ales is located on a working farm in Argyll at the head of Loch Fyne. Get a fascinating glimpse in to the brewing of their ales with a brewery tour when available, enjoy a tasting flight of beers in their bar or tuck into a beef pie made from their own highland beef, which is also available to buy in their shop – along with their ales of course!
